Public relations consultants, high-profile attorneys and former law partners caught in the shadow of disgraced attorney Scott Rothstein have taken center stage in the ongoing saga of the investigations of Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm in Fort Lauderdale.

The crisis communications and public relations management team have taken the lead on tamping down the residual fall-out. By all accounts, they’ve done a good job.

Former U.S. Attorney Kendall Coffey led reporters on a first-person tour of Rothstein’s private lair, where a private elevator reportedly ferried the once-high flying attorney to an office with as many photographs of government officials as there were hidden microphones. This, they allege, is where Rothstein isolated himself and ran a nine-figure Ponzi scheme.

Partner Stuart Rosenfeldt continues to profess ignorance to all that went on in Rothstein’s office.

Even the Website has been pulled offline.

While skepticism continues to grow in the community as to what Rothstein’s partners did – and did not – know in the lead-up to the revelations of his alleged crimes, the crisis management team has stuck to the script.

They’re separating the partners, lawyers and the firm itself from the Rothstein taint. They’re granting interviews and tours to showcase how this could occur under the radar of an entire community.

These are pretty savvy tactics. But in the end, evidence revealed by ongoing criminal (and civil) investigations will have to jibe with reality. Mainly, will the picture they’re trying to paint match public perception?

Or are the firm, Rosenfeldt and other attorneys only buying time in the court of public opinion?
