A women’s search for a living kidney donor brings star power to Miami
June 14, 2017
On evening of June 15, a South Florida resident who struggles with end-stage renal disease hopes to raise kidney donor awareness and maybe even find a living donor at the #ShowVivLove event at The Sacred Space in Miami, a modern campus for wellness and conscious living in the dynamic Wynwood Arts District. Vivian Fried entered end-stage renal disease in January 2014 and has spent four years searching for a match. The median wait time for a kidney transplant declared by the National Kidney Foundation is 3.6 years.
As another avenue to try to find a donor and raise money for her care and quality of life, Fried’s husband, Jim, organized this event with hopes of raising $75,000. With Sytner and Villasante as the highlighted speakers, #ShowVivLove will honor Fried’s journey through her continued fight.
“A lot of people don’t realize that they could be an easy match for a kidney donation,” says Jim Fried, husband and president of Sandstone Reality Advisors. “That one altruistic person could be right around the corner, and we just need to find them.”
Peace Love World, a philanthropic global clothing brand founded by event speaker Villasante, has a mission to spread Peace, Love and Happiness wherever they can. Sytner, the other event speaker, is the author of The Kidney Donor’s Journey, a rabbi, social worker, inspirational speaker, Huffington Post contributor, and proud kidney donor. He has been featured on 60 minutes, The Today Show, CBS and many more programs.
“For someone who’s on dialysis every day, it can be torture,” says Sytner. “Vivian deserves a lot of love; it’s our chance to give her a second chance at life.”
Fried has A positive blood and, according to her husband, about 80 percent of people would be a positive kidney donor match. After years of searching and being thrown relentless challenges, she spends six days a week at dialysis and does not plan on stopping her fight or her search for a donor.
Tickets for #ShowVivLove are $154 and can be purchased at bit.ly/showvivlove2017. Donations are also welcome. Admission includes drinks, kosher hors devours, and a meet & greet with the speakers.
