Five New Social Media Trends to Capitalize on in 2024
January 30, 2024
As we enter 2024, it’s time to turn our attention toward where we want to take our brand’s voice on social media. With the landscape constantly evolving, navigating the “top trends” can feel overwhelming.
But, there’s no need to worry! With the research and award-winning results to back it up, BoardroomPR’s Florida social media experts have found five trends that are a great jumping-off point for your platform.
Keywords are everything because social platforms will become the place to search for anything.
If you’re trying to search for something, the game has changed. Today, social media reigns supreme for exploring options and discovering authentic content – specifically, user-generated content (UGC). In fact, 44% of people aged 16 to 64 now rely primarily on social media when researching brands. When you specifically look at Gen Z, platforms like TikTok are more than entertainment – they’re social media search engines.
Short is out, longer is in. Long-form videos are making a comeback.
For a while, short-form video took over our social media ‘for you pages’ but now people are ready for more substance… meaning longer videos are about to be hot again.
When we say longer videos, we’re talking a length of two to five minutes. Many of the big platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok keep increasing their max video lengths.
Having people share your content is everything: likes and comments are no longer the leading engagement pillar
Every social media user wants to expand their reach, but if you’ve tried to buy followers or likes, the results can be disappointing.
Comments, likes, and followers can all be faked. Views and impressions are easily inflated. However, there’s one engagement signal that’s much harder to game: shares. This will be the new tool people look to in order to measure how much reach their content has received. The algorithm will reward you for those shares.
Grid posts = photo dumps, always, and no, it’s not called a carousel anymore.
Instead of just a simple static post, photo dumps allow you to tell a more in-depth story through a collage of different images. Each one is just as important as the next and needs to be able to stand on its own or group the attention of your audience.
Authenticity remains king.
For many years, authenticity has become the determining factor of success for social media platforms. Content can too easily be a plethora of overly-edited images and videos, which is a turn-off to the average consumer. The more authentic your brand is, the more relatable you are to your customers, which means the more likely they are to buy from you.
The popularity of TikTok and the rising BeReal platform show how authenticity has really taken over – the need for filter-free content and real relatable situations and personalities.
