With vaccination numbers on the rise, and COVID-related restrictions loosening, things are finally starting to go back to “normal” in this new post-pandemic world. For businesses, this means a transition back to the office is imminent, and in-person networking events are officially back.

When the COVID-19 lockdown prohibited us all from regularly scheduled human interaction, many businesses quickly pivoted their events to virtual platforms. With companies like Zoom offering useful features such as screen-sharing, breakout rooms and webinar capability, the video call instantly became a regular part of the daily routine for working people.

However, as much as we relied on these services to supplement for our lack of interaction, nothing they offer could come close to truly recreating the in-person experience. The level of nuance in a face-to-face interaction just cannot be properly represented in a virtual environment. A virtual wine tasting or yoga class could never match the spirit of an in-person one.

Networking events are particularly suited to an in-person structure. This is because the best aspect of networking is serendipity, something a virtual platform just can’t provide. At an in-person event, you might run into an old connection, be introduced to new people, or happen to interact with someone you never would have met otherwise. At a Zoom event, you’re more likely to just sit and listen as a speaker presents, without being very participatory, thus losing the opportunity for unexpected connections. It’s these connections, the ones we don’t anticipate, that often turn out to be the most valuable.

So, it’s no surprise that we’re all eager to get back to in-person events. Here at BoardroomPR, we’ve successfully returned to the office, and we’re excited to be back to participating in networking events with our clients.

Here are a few examples of recent in-person networking events BoardroomPR has been involved in:

While we’re all thankful for the virtual platforms that enabled businesses to carry on through the pandemic, face-to-face human interaction is back, and it’s here to stay. We’ve lost a year and a half of valuable time to COVID, so take advantage of returning in-person events and get back to proper networking.
